  • Broadly described as a silk sari woven on the specialized loom with a matrix of wide borders in arresting, deep colours, a striped or checked body, patterns of rudraksha beads, parrots, swans, paisleys juxtaposed with temple borders or nelis (twirled strings) on gold zari pallus, this sari was a narrator of stories from the Indian national movement. A Swadeshi idea. Today, it may be an heirloom acquisition, a museum piece, or a family-owned traditional sari for some.
